WHAT IS GLYCERIN AND ITS BENEFITS

Glycerin in a natural compound derived from vegetable oils or animal facts, it is clear in colour and has thick consistency, and a naturally occurring compound found in the body. It is used in food as well as skin care. I was always say if it’s good enough to eat, its good enough to put on your face. But in all seriousness, it has some super amazing benefits which we will discuss more of in this blog.

Glycerin is a part of the humectant family an amazing emollient that locks moisture in the skin allowing the skin to remain hydrated for a longer period of time. It does this by pulling moisture from the air and from the deeper layers (dermis layer) of your skin into the epidermis layer (top layer of skin). It’s a great vegan friendly alternative to honey another natural humectant.

It’s known to increase skin hydration, relieve dryness and revive the skins surface layer, making it one of the most effective ingredients for moisturiser.

Ordinarily it is not an ingredient that you would use on its own, however works great alongside other ingredients to create effective formulations. by using glycerin on its own you run the risk irritating your skin, most defiantly do not use it on your face without it being diluted. But with that being said, after decorating my house I found myself with ultra-dry and chapped hands, honestly, they felt like sandpaper! I lathered my hands in our Nourishing body butter allowed them to soak in before bathing my hands in glycerin to allow the moisture to retain in my hands. My hands were super soft and supple afterwards as the glycerin hand bath locked all the body butter goodness in my hands, restoring my hands back to their normal moisture levels. This is not something I do regularly however after the decorating my hands were in a desperate situation, but afterwards I was able to use the nourishing body butter as usual to keep my hands ultra-smooth and hydrated. As I say this was a one off so do not make a habit of doing this on a regular basis, our Nourishing Body Butter is a great product to use designed to keep your body including your hands buttery soft.

Glycerin in skin care allows you to maintain a healthy youthful glow, preventing the loss of moisture. It also boasts anti-aging properties, protects, and heals the skin and has been reported from being an effective ingredient to treat Eczema and Psoriasis. Due to its low molecular weight, it is able to penetrate deep into the skin leaving the skin with a dewy finish.

All these amazing benefits make it a well-deserved ingredient in our AHA Regenerative Night Cream, just imagine the magic that takes place leaving this on your face the whole night! You will wake up feeling like a silky goddess, trust me I know the feeling.
